If whining, getting dragged down by minutia and being negative was productive and served any purpose at all!
So I went back to Noah's playhouse for tea and cake!
A thought for every day…yesterday someone was moaning to me on the phone. I gave them a different take on their viewpoint and they seemed to take it on board.
They said “it’s ok for you – you seem to be able to put a positive take on everything”… by their own admission, they often take a negative view on things and get caught up with small details and being incensed about kWh’s or TalkTalk’s latest offer.
So I said: “If whining, getting dragged down by minutia and being negative was productive and served any purpose at all, I would definitely invest more time in whining, getting dragged down by minutia and being negative.”
They chuckled and said thanks… and so I went back to Noah’s 4-foot x 3-foot playhouse for tea and cake! Kids can be a good leveller too. I noticed Noah didn’t get fed up with the dark clouds, or the fact he fell over earlier and cut his knee, or the fact that there was only one Fondant Fancy and one slice of Victoria sponge cake!
This morning I woke up to a message from them saying that this had made them struggle to sleep, as they’ve realised that investing time into thoughts or minutia that doesn’t help them move forwards, and whining holds them back. Result!
This may seem like an insightful thought and that I’m lucky to have that mindset. Luck didn’t come into it – I worked on that mindset because in my earlier days I used to get caught up and anchored in distractions, before realising they weren’t helpful. So I thought I may share this as a thought, not just for today, but every day!
